A Message of
Greeting ...
It’s
difficult to imagine a life lived in isolation. We are people who
need each other. Worship, along with service to neighbor, is
central to our life as followers of Jesus Christ. We are drawn
together by the Holy Spirit who rouses us from our daily lives and
brings us into a time and place for common worship. At St James
Church we use the 1979 Book of Common Prayer, and when we sing, much
of our music comes from The Hymnal 1982.
Our worship can be both contemplative and celebratory, and we
welcome a variety of voices in shared participation. We follow what
is called by many a “high church” ritual; we believe it helps us
come closer to the mystery of God with us. Our worship is
intentional but not fussy or precious. It is reverent and holy
without losing the companionship of one another. At St James we do
our best to make our worship “user friendly”, but if you’re new to
liturgical worship it’s sometimes helpful simply to come, be with
us, join in where you can, and not worry too much about doing
everything “just right”. Most of us have become familiar with the
ritual of our worship and consider ourselves blessed by the
opportunity it affords us to be in the presence of God with each
other.
Christian formation opportunities help us to think about — and
discuss with one another — what it is we do and what’s important to
us, and just what it is God might want us to be about. Questioning
is an important part of our study and our discussions.
Jesus told his followers to love God with everything we are and to
love our neighbor as ourselves (Matt 22:36-40). This is what we try
to do at St James. It’s a life-long process and it takes practice.
There’s a sign on the corner of our property that says, “Love Your
Neighbor — Practice Here Sundays”. But it’s something to which
we’re called Monday through Saturday as well.
Loving and serving our neighbor takes many forms. We support
intentionally various service projects through prayer and
participation. We hope you’ll consider getting involved with us in
our life together.
May God bless you on your journey of faith,
