Adults and teenage youth may serve as lectors and Eucharistic Ministers at Saint James Episcopal Church. Lectors are responsible for reading the Old Testament, Epistle and Psalm each Sunday at the 8:00 a.m. Eucharist and the Old Testament and Epistle at the 10:30 a.m. service (the Psalm is generally sung by a Cantor). Lectors do not vest and come to the lectern from the congregation to read the lessons and psalm.
Eucharistic Ministers are a part of the chancel party and generally are vested in either cassock and surplice (8:00 a.m.) and alb (later services). Eucharistic Ministers may be responsible for leading the Prayers of the People, however, that duty may also be performed by lectors or by a deacon (if one is available). Eucharistic Ministers are responsible for administering the chalice to the communicants at the time they come forward to receive Holy Communion.
Training for both lectors and Eucharistic Ministers is provided within the parish by the Rector or her designee. If you are interested in serving as a lector or Eucharistic Minister, please contact Mother Lynn at 614.262.2360 or by e-mail, cartered@sbcglobal.net
Eucharistic Visitors are persons trained to take Communion from the church on Sunday after one of the parish celebrations of Holy Eucharist to those of the parish who are ill or homebound. Training is provided for this ministry on a Diocesan level.
